Don Ding Oolong is one of the most famous turquoise teas of Taiwan. The Frozen Peak itself is located in the central part of Taiwan and is only 800 meters high, but the tea grown on its sides is incredibly famous. In 1972 the evaluation of the quality of Don Ding Oolong originated the tradition of Taiwan Tea Competition. In spring, in the second half of May, more than 3,500 farmers offer samples of their tea for the competition. After thorough tasting of all presented samples, the best tea-tasters choose only one tea which they proclaim Champion. The price for one kilogram of such tea can reach the amount to US $4,000-5,000. Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible to get Champion Don Ding Oolong even in Taiwan since all of it is bought up immediately after the competition by local connoisseurs. Non-Champion Don Ding Oolong, however, is also worth the most admiring attention.
Don Ding Oolong is a perfect tea for red-tea lovers (or black tea according to traditional European classification) who decided to acquaint themselves with turquoise tea. You will easily remember its rich «baky» taste, it will not be lost against other dishes' background, and you may accompany it with light tea sweets. Don Ding is universal it is equally good for mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Besides, Don Ding Oolong may be served before the meal it is a great appetizer.
