GABA-tea got its name for a high content of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Gamma-aminobutyric acid, in combination with other tea compounds, has an absolutely marvelous and integrated effect on the human body. It lowers blood-pressure, helps atherosclerosis, headaches, and sea-sickness stimulates brain activity in particular and the dynamics of neural processes in general, improves mental abilities and memory, helps hung-over, has high antioxidant effect which means that it may have preventive anti-cancer effect. Gamma-aminobutyric acid is analogous to tranquilizers (diazepam, phenazepam) by its effect, but not habit-forming.
In a word, GABA-tea is a health-giving drink (and very agreeable to the taste). GABA-tea is a relatively young tea. It was first produced in 1987 in Japan and since then enjoys popularity in this country. In Russia GABA-tea is practically unknown despite a wide application of its main compound gamma-aminobutyric acid (it is put down on the «Register of Russian medicaments») in official medicine.
Taiwanese GABA-tea is produced in accordance with the technology and under a strict control of Tea Research and Extension Station a scientific and very serious institution.
